Free For Year Nines

Once again all Year 9 students at Rangitikei College received their free stationery packs last week. The packs which include stationery needed for the year as well as numeracy and literacy workbooks are supplied by the Rangitikei College Trust who also pays subject fees for the same students. Principal Mr Lance Christiansen said the support of the Trust was ongoing and very much appreciated by students and parents at what is traditionally a very expensive time of the year. "We are very lucky to have the College Trust continue to support this initiative; the students are always very excited when they receive their packs."
Mr Christiansen was also delighted with the very good results from the initial NCEA exams. "We have focussed on literacy for the last three years and our results in the junior school have shown a remarkable improvement. This has flowed through into the senior school and we are now well above the national average for literacy in level one NCEA". Mr Christiansen said staff are looking to continue to improve on this and also focus more on numeracy. "Our results overall are at or above the national averages and it shows our efforts are making a real difference to our students. It is clear you do not need to leave town to get a good education". Mr Christiansen said the key to the results were his excellent staff and goal centred students. "Both staff and students work hard before, during and after school to make the most of their learning opportunities".
